Korean Garlic Bread

This recipe was inspired by this pin. For this bake I wanted to start learning how to make bread and what better bread is there than the garlic variety! Who doesn’t love carbs and butter?

Ingredients

  • 200ml warm milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 7 tbsp sugar
  • 550g plain flour
  • 1 1/2tsp salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 350g unsalted room-temperature butter
  • 2 packs of cream cheese
  • 60ml cream
  • 2 tbsp garlic paste
  • Extra flour for dusting your surface

*The recipe called for condensed milk, which I didn’t end up using. In hindsight maybe if it says to use it, use it 😂

Instructions

In a bowl mix 200ml of warm milk, the yeast, 6tsp of the sugar, and 125g of the flour. You’re going to want to mix this and cover it for 10mins.

In a separate bowl, add 425g of flour, and 1tsp of salt.

Then add 2 eggs, and 125g of the butter and mix together

Knead for 10mins until when you drop it from a height it doesn’t lose its shape, it’s a fully formed blob and when you poke it very angrily it springs back.

Cover the dough for 1hr somewhere warm to let the gluten do it’s thing.

Cover in egg wash and bake at 180c for 20-25 mins.

Cut the bread into 8 segments to scoop your filling into and then dip into the garlic mixture.

Bake for another 15mins.

For the filling: add the cream cheese, 1 tbsp of sugar, 60ml of cream, 1/2 tsp salt

For the garlic mixture: 225g of melted butter, garlic paste and 2eggs.

This recipe was hard to follow but tbh I blame the TikTok format. You know it’s bad when you have to go down to the Pinterest comment section to find a step-by-step cause you couldn’t make out the words she was saying and follow along at the same time. Maybe that’s a me problem though 😂

Unfortunately, this one got a 2/5 Barnaby score. Maybe cause I’m a bread novice, maybe because when I put this with my spaghetti bolognese I expected it to be more savory, or perhaps because I’m an idiot this one didn’t turn out that good. I definitely would like to try garlic bread again with a different recipe though.

What I’d really like is one of this mixers * with a kneading attachment or a full-on bread making machine * because I’m lazy.

“Did you at no point question how much sugar was in this you stupid b****”
